Amazon Music has added a number of new grunge bands to its roster, including Nirvana, Alice in Chains, and Pearl Jam. The move comes as the streaming service looks to expand its selection of music genres.

Grunge was a major force in the music world in the early 1990s, with Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” becoming one of the most iconic songs of the era. The genre has seen a resurgence in recent years, thanks in part to the popularity of shows like “Twin Peaks” and “Riverdale.”

Amazon Music’s new grunge offerings also include Soundgarden’s “Badmotorfinger,” Stone Temple Pilots’ “Core,” and Mudhoney’s “EveryGood Boy Deserves Fudge.”

Soundgarden

Soundgarden, one of the most influential grunge bands of all time, has been added to the Amazon Music roster. The band rose to prominence in the early 1990s with their groundbreaking album, Badmotorfinger, and went on to release several more critically acclaimed albums, including Superunknown and Down on the Upside. Soundgarden disbanded in 1997, but reunited in 2010 and have been touring and releasing new music ever since. Their most recent album, King Animal, was released in 2012.

Alice in Chains

Alice in Chains is an American rock band formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1987 by guitarist and songwriter Jerry Cantrell and original lead vocalist Layne Staley. The band is known for its distinctive vocal style, which often incorporated harmonized vocals from the two lead singers. Alice in Chains rose to international fame as part of the grunge movement of the early 1990s. The band’s third studio album, Dirt (1992), was released to critical and commercial success. The album has been certified four-times platinum by the RIAA and went on to become one of the best-selling albums in music history. Following Staley’s death in 2002, Cantrell and the other members of Alice in Chains continued to tour and record with new lead vocalist William DuVall.

The band has released five studio albums, one live album, two compilations, 17 music videos, and 24 singles. Its last three studio albums have each been certified at least platinum by the RIAA. Alice in Chains was one of several grunge bands that achieved commercial success in the early 1990s, along with Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden; they have sometimes been referred to as “the big four” of grunge. Rolling Stone ranked them No. 92 on their list of “The 100 Greatest Artists of All Time”. VH1 placed them at No. 49 on their “100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock” list. In 2012, they were ranked number buildup=one-upping on Gigwise’s “The 50 Best Live Bands Of All Time” list

Pearl Jam

As grunge music continues to make a comeback, Amazon Music has announced that it has added several new grunge bands to its roster. Among the new additions are Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains.

These bands join Amazon Music’s already impressive lineup of grunge artists, which includes Nirvana, Mudhoney, and Mother Love Bone. With these latest additions, Amazon Music is now the premier destination for all things grunge.

Nirvana

Nirvana was one of the most successful grunge bands of all time, and their music has found a new home on Amazon Music. The Seattle-based band was founded in 1987 by singer/guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic, and drummer Dave Grohl joined the band in 1990. Nirvana released their debut album, Bleach, in 1989, followed by Nevermind in 1991. Nirvana’s final album, In Utero, was released in 1993. Cobain died by suicide in 1994, and Nirvana disbanded shortly thereafter.
