The Gospel Music Workshop of America (GMWA) Women of Worship is a music ministry dedicated to providing quality gospel music education and performances.
GMWA Women of Worship
The GMWA Women of Worship is a fellowship of women who love to sing gospel music. The women are from all over the United States and range in age from young adults to seniors. Many of the women are professional singers, but there are also many who are amateur singers. The GMWA Women of Worship meet twice a year, in the spring and in the fall.
Who We Are
GMWA Women of Worship is a Gospel music ensemble that is a part of the Gospel Music Workshop of America. The GMWA is an international music ministry, founded in 1968 by Rev. James Cleveland.
The Women of Worship was established in 1972 and is currently under the direction of Dr. Portia Richardson-Cunningham. The group is comprised of women who love Jesus and enjoy ministering through song. We travel extensively, leading worship at various GMWA events, churches, and conferences.
We are committed to empowering women through music and providing quality Gospel music that is rooted in the Word of God. Our goal is to lead others into a deeper relationship with Christ and to make His name known throughout the world.

GMWA Women of Worship is a gospel music group that is committed to spreading the word of God through music. We sing and write songs that are inspired by our personal relationships with Christ. We believe that music has the power to change lives, and we strive to use our talents to make a difference in the world. We have a heart for worship and a passion for ministering to others. We would love to share our gifts with you.
Our History
Gospel Music Workshop of America Women of Worship is a sisterhood of talented, anointed women from various backgrounds and walks of life, who are committed to sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ through song. We are women of all ages who have been called by God to use our musical gifts and abilities to minister to the body of Christ and to lead others into His presence through worship.
Founded in Detroit
Gospel Music Workshop of America (GMWA) Women of Worship is a music ministry founded in Detroit, Michigan in July 2000 under the leadership of Vickie Winans. The Women of Worship’s purpose is to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ through song and preaching, as well as to empower and encourage women worldwide.
The Women of Worship ministry began with a core group of five members: Vickie Winans, Dorinda Clark-Cole, Lisa Page Brooks, Beverly Crawford and Jackie McCullough. Since its inception, the Women of Worship has grown to include over 20 members from all over the United States.
The Women of Worship have released five albums:Changed (2001), Live In Atlanta (2002), The Live Experience (2003), At Their Best (2004), and Victorious Livin’ (2006). They have also been featured on several other GMWA albums, including Men & Women of Gospel Music Workshop of America (2000), We Blessed the Lord (2001), We’ve Got the Victory (2002), hold My Mule: The Anniversary Project Vol. 1 (2003) and Wonderful Is Thy Name: Gospel Music Workshop Of America Women Of Worship Salute Shirley Caesar And Albertina Walker(2004).
Moved to Chicago
In 1971, after the 10th annual convention in Cincinnati, the GMWA membership voted to move the convention to Chicago. The first Chicago convention was held at Quinn Chapel AME Church with James Cleveland as president. The theme was “Hold Fast to What Is Good” from 1 Thessalonians 5:21.

Gospel Music Workshop of America Women of Worship (GMWA WOW) is a music ministry organization established for the purpose of exalting the Lord Jesus Christ through song.GMWA WOW is committed to equipping, empowering, and encouraging women who lead worship or desire to do so. We also exist to provide a network of support for Christian women who desire to worship God through music and fellowship.
