The Sounds of Blackness
The Sounds of Blackness is a local Minneapolis group that is known for their powerful performances of gospel music. They have been together for over 20 years and have toured all over the world. They are currently working on their new album, entitled “The Light.”

The Sounds of Blackness is an American music ensemble from Minneapolis, Minnesota, that specializes in a cappella, R&B, soul, gospel and hip hop music. The group was formed in 1968 by members of the MacPhail Center for Music. Originally called The Minnesota Multicultural Choir, the group changed its name to The Sounds of Blackness in 1990.
The group has won two Grammy Awards, first in 1992 for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for their single “In the Hands of God”, and again in 2010 for Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance for their cover of “God Bless America”. They have also been nominated for eight other Grammy Awards.

TheSounds of Blackness is a community institution that has been providing quality gospel music to the Minneapolis area for over 40 years.
