A list of the top 10 gospel music lists.

Introduction

Gospel music is a genre of Christian music. The creation, performance, significance, and even the definition of gospel music varies according to culture and social context. Gospel music is composed and performed for many purposes, including aesthetic pleasure, religious or ceremonial purposes, and as an entertainment product for the marketplace.

Gospel music usually has dominant vocals (often with strong use of harmony) with Christian lyrics. Gospel music can be traced to the early 17th century, with roots in the black oral tradition. Hymns and sacred songs were often repeated in a call and response fashion. Most of the churches relied on hand clapping and foot stomping as rhythmic accompaniments. Gestures or gestures were sometimes included in the performance as well. By the last quarter of the 20th century, this trend had changed radically within mainstream Protestantism as a result of musical “praise teams” becoming popular as a replacement for traditional choirs Many nontraditional songs have been composed specifically for praise teams.

During the second half of the 20th century, gospel music moved into secular territory with crossover artists such as Elvis Presley and Mahalia Jackson and faith-based singer-songwriters like Bob Dylan and Richie Havens. As a result, Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) was born featuring songs with positive messages about Jesus Christ that could be played on secular radio stations. As CCM gained popularity, artists like Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith crossed over from gospel into pop stardom while still remaining true to their message.
