1995 was the year techno exploded. Propelled by the sounds of Detroit and Belfast, the genre left its own dark corner of clubs and entered the mainstream. Top 40 radio stations in the US and UK were playing techno, albeit a very watered-down version of it. Commercial nightclubs began to host nights dedicated to techno music.
