The Plot
The Angry Birds Movie is a 2016 Finnish-American 3D computer-animated action-comedy film based on Rovio Entertainment’s video game series of the same name. The film features Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph,Kate McKinnon, Sean Penn, Tony Hale, Keegan-Michael Key, Bill Hader, and Peter Dinklage as the voices of the main characters.
In the film’s plot, Red (Sudeikis), Chuck (Gad), and Bomb (McBride) are birds who reside on an island populated entirely by happy flightless birds. King Mudbeard (Dinklage), leader of an island of green pigs, plans to steal their eggs. The three birds must work together to stop him.
The movie was released in North America on May 20, 2016 by Columbia Pictures. Despite generally negative reviews from critics especially towards its comparability to other animated films that were released during its time; it grossed $349 million worldwide against its $73 million budget and became a box office success.
The Characters
Red (voiced by Jason Sudeikis) is an unlikeable, yet concerned and deeply troubled bird, who struggles to conform to the conformity around him. When his friends and family are threatened by the arrival of the pigs, he is reluctant to help, but ultimately rises to the occasion.
Chuck (voiced by Josh Gad) is a hyperactive yellow bird. He loves nothing more than using his talents to make others happy. When he meets the pigs, he initially sees them as a potential source of fun and excitement. However, he soon realizes that they are a threat to his friends and family, and he joins Red in trying to stop them.
Bomb (voiced by Danny McBride) is a black bird with a personal vendetta against the pigs. He is stoic and serious, but has a kind heart. He joins Red and Chuck in their quest to stop the pigs from taking over their home.
