90s Electronic Dance Music Videos: Street to Desert
Contents
Electronic dance music was born in the clubs of Chicago and Detroit in the 1980s. But it was the ’90s that saw the genre’s biggest explosion, as the sound spread from the underground to the mainstream. In this post, we take a look at some of the best ’90s EDM videos, from the street to the desert.
Introduction
Welcome to my 90s electronic dance music video guide. This guide will take you from the streets of New York City to the deserts of Joshua Tree, and show you some of the best EDM videos of the 90s. Whether you’re a fan of techno, trance, house, or any other kind of electronic dance music, I think you’ll find something to enjoy in this guide. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.
The Street: New York City
In the early nineties, the first electronic dance music videos were created. At this time, the internet was not widely used, so these videos were circulated on VHS tapes. The earliest known EDM video is “The Street” by Jeff Mills, which was filmed in New York City.
NYC Subway
The New York City Subway is a rapid transit system that serves four of the five boroughs of New York City, New York: the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens. Its operator is the New York City Transit Authority (NYCTA), an agency of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA).
In 2016, an average of 5.65 million people used the subway system each day, making it the busiest rapid transit system in both the United States and North America. In total, there are 24 rail lines, serving 472 stations. The system operates 24/7.
A typical NYC subway train car holds about 200 passengers, but can hold up to 600 during rush hour. The average length of a NYC subway train is about 10 cars long, but can be up to 18 cars long during rush hour.
Brooklyn
NYC’s borough of Brooklyn is where The Street goes to get away from it all – or at least appears to. In the early ‘90s, when the majority of this film was shot, Brooklyn was still considered a dangerous place to be. The Brooklyn Bridge, which makes several appearances in the movie, was closed to pedestrians at night due to rampant crime. Times have changed though and today Brooklyn is one of the hippest places to live in NYC.
Bronx
The Bronx is the northernmost borough of New York City, within the U.S. state of New York. It is south of Westchester County; northeast and east of Manhattan, across the Harlem River; and north of Queens, across the East River. Since 1914, the Bronx has had the same boundaries as Bronx County, the third-most densely populated county in the United States.
The Desert: Joshua Tree
In the early 1990s, the American southwest saw the rise of a new music genre: desert trance. This style of trance music was characterized by its slow, hypnotic beats and often-ethereal melodies. One of the most popular desert trance tracks was “The Joshua Tree” by the band Desert Dwellers. The song’s title refers to the Joshua tree, a type of tree that is native to the Mojave Desert.
The Joshua Tree National Park
The Joshua Tree National Park is located in the Mojave Desert in southeastern California. The park covers more than 790,000 acres and includes two deserts – the Mojave and the Colorado. The landscapes of the park are unique and diverse, ranging from the Joshua trees for which the park is named, to Palo Verde trees, yucca plants, cacti, andJoshua tree forests. The park is home to a variety of wildlife, including bighorn sheep, desert tortoises, coyotes, and mountain lions.
The Joshua Tree National Park was established in 1994 and is a popular destination for hiking, camping, rock climbing, and bird watching. The park is also home to some of the best stargazing in the country.
Burning Man
In the late 80s, the first desert party, called Burning Man, was held in San Francisco. A few hundred people gathered to listen to music, take drugs and watch the sun rise. The party was inspired by Afrika Bambaataa’s 1982 song “Planet Rock”, which samples Kraftwerk’s “Trans-Europe Express”. The event became an annual tradition, and gradually grew in size and stature. In 1986, it moved to a location called Black Rock Desert in Nevada, where it continues to be held today.
Burning Man has become one of the most important events in the electronic dance music calendar. Every year, thousands of people descend on the Nevada desert to listen to music, take drugs and party for a week. The event is known for its elaborate sculptures and installations, which are created by artists from all over the world.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the 90s were a great time for electronic dance music. The music videos from this era reflect the changes in the genre, from the street style of early videos to the more polished look of later videos. Despite the different styles, all of these videos are united by a sense of fun and adventure, and they continue to be popular with audiences today.
