The Doors

The Doors were an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1965. The group consisted of vocalist Jim Morrison, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robby Krieger and drummer John Densmore. They were one of the most controversial and influential rock bands of the 60s, thanks to Morrison’s wild, poetic lyrics and the group’s outrageous onstage antics.

The Doors’ first album, The Doors (1967), was a massive success, spawning the hit singles “Light My Fire” and “Break On Through (To the Other Side)”. The follow-up album, Strange Days (1967), was also a critical and commercial success.

The band’s third album, Waiting for the Sun (1968), featured the hit single “Hello, I Love You”. The Doors’ fourth album, The Soft Parade (1969), was less successful than its predecessors, but still managed to spawn the hit single “Touch Me”.

The band’s fifth and final studio album, Morrison Hotel (1970), was another critical and commercial success. The lead single from the album, “Love Her Madly”, became one of The Doors’ biggest hits.

The Doors embarked on a grueling touring schedule in support of their albums, which took its toll on Morrison. He developed a drinking problem and his health began to decline. On July 3rd, 1971, Morrison died of heart failure in Paris, France at the age of 27.

Despite Morrison’s death, The Doors continued to record and tour with new vocalist Jim Dandy manzarek. They released two more albums: Other Voices (1971) and Full Circle (1972). In 1973, the band disbanded.
