Psychedelic Rock Pics: The Best of the Genre

Psychedelic rock is a style of rock music popularized in the 1960s that is characterized by a distorted, surreal sound. Fans of psychedelic rock music often love the genre for its trippy, mind-bending qualities. In this article, we’ll explore some of the best psychedelic rock photos ever taken.

The Beatles

The Beatles were an English rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960. With members John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, they became widely regarded as the foremost and most influential music band of the 20th century. They were integral to the development of 1960s counterculture and popular music’s recognition as an art form. Rooted in skiffle, beat and 1950s rock and roll, their sound incorporated elements of classical music and traditional pop in innovative ways; the band later explored garage rock and psychedelic rock. Their clothes, style and remarks injected them into the centre of contemporary youth culture at a time when British society was undergoing rapid change.

The Beatles built their reputation playing clubs in Liverpool and Hamburg over a three-year period from 1960, with Stuart Sutcliffe initially serving as bass player. The core trio of Lennon, McCartney and Harrison, together since 1958, went through a succession of drummers, including Pete Best, before asking Starr to join them in 1962. Manager Brian Epstein moulded them into a professional act, and producer George Martin guided their musical development; they gained international popularity amid controversy over their hairstyles, drug use and lived communally at a London townhouse during their years of global success.

As their popularity grew into mass hysteria known as “Beatlemania”, the band acquired the nickname “the Fab Four”. By early 1964 they had become international stars, leading the “British Invasion” of the United States pop market. From 1965 onwards,’they produced what many critics consider to be some of their finest material: Rubber Soul (1965), Revolver (1966) Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967), The Beatles (1968) – also known as “the White Album” – Abbey Road (1969) and Let It Be (1970). In 1968,’they founded Apple Corps Ltd., a multimedia corporation that continues to control their commercial legacy more than 40 years after breaking up commercially.

The Rolling Stones

The Rolling Stones are an English rock band formed in London, England, in 1962. The first stable line-up consisted of Brian Jones on guitar and harmonica, Ian Stewart on piano, Keith Richards on guitar and vocals, Bill Wyman on bass and Charlie Watts on drums. Stewart was removed from the official line-up in 1963 but continued to work with the band as a contracted musician until his death in 1985. The band’s primary songwriters, Jagger and Richards, assumed leadership after Andrew Loog Oldham became the group’s manager. Jones left the band less than a month before his death in 1969, having already been replaced by Mick Taylor, who remained until 1974. After Taylor left the band, Ronnie Wood took his place in 1975 and has been on guitar in tandem with Richards ever since. Since then Wyman and Watts have retired; Jones died in 1969 and Stewart in 1985.

The Rolling Stones were at the forefront of the British Invasion of bands that became popular in the United States in 1964 and were identified with the youthful and rebellious counterculture of the 1960s. They were integral to developing British blues into British rock music and contributing to the development of early hard rock music. In 1989 they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and they have released 30 studio albums, 23 live albums and numerous compilations. Let It Bleed (1969), Sticky Fingers (1971) and Exile on Main St. (1972) are generally considered to be among their greatest albums; their recordings of Satisfaction (1965) acquired disproportionate notoriety due to its choice by US armed forces during combat operations during Vietnam War as a means of tearing down enemy morale.[citation needed] According to Billboard magazine as of 2012[update], The Rolling Stones have sold more than 200 million records worldwide.{{cite web|url=http://www

Jimi Hendrix

When it comes to psychedelic rock, there’s one figurehead that stands out above the rest: Jimi Hendrix. The Seattle-born musician became a legend in his own lifetime with his innovative and incendiary guitar playing. His Hendrix Experience band mates, Mitch Mitchell on drums and Noel Redding on bass, provided a solid foundation for his sonic pyrotechnics.

While Hendrix is best known for his work in the late 1960s, he was actually a touring musician for much of the decade. His incendiary live performances – often featuring him playing his guitar with his teeth or behind his back – earned him a reputation as one of the most dynamic and exciting performers of the time. Hendrix’s mastery of feedback and distortion techniques was integral to the development of psychedelia as a musical genre.

Sadly, Hendrix passed away at the age of 27, but he left behind a legacy that has inspired countless musicians in the ensuing decades. If you’re looking for some mind-bending Jimi Hendrix pictures, look no further – we’ve got some of the best ones right here!
