The Paper Kites formed in 2010, when Sam Bentley (lead vocals, guitar, piano) and Christina Lacy (bass guitar, vocals) met at a pub open mic night in Melbourne. The two began playing gigs together with friends of Lacy’s on drums and violin. Bentley and Lacy were later joined by drummer Josh Bentley (no relation to Sam), who had played with them at various gigs. The three then decided to start writing and recording music together.
The Paper Kites’ debut album, States, was released in 2014 to critical acclaim. The album was nominated for “Best Folk/Roots Album” at the 2015 ARIA Awards. The band toured extensively in support of the album, playing shows in Australia, North America and Europe.
The Paper Kites’ sophomore album, On the Train Ride Home, was released in 2017 to positive reviews. The album was nominated for “Best Indie/Rock Album” at the 2018 ARIA Awards. The band once again toured extensively in support of the album, playing shows across Australia, North America and Europe.
