On March 26th, 2013, Swedish House Mafia made music history. The group, which was made up of Axwell, Ingrosso, and Steve Angello, played their final show at Ultra Music Festival in Miami.

Introduction

Swedish House Mafia was a DJ and production trio consisting of Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso. The group was formed in 2008, and officially disbanded in 2013.

During their time together, Swedish House Mafia were one of the most successful electronic music groups in the world. They released two platinum-selling singles (“Don’t You Worry Child” and “Save the World”), performed at some of the biggest festivals on the planet (including Coachella, Ultra Music Festival, and Tomorrowland), and sold out arena shows across Europe and North America.

In 2012, they were ranked #10 on Forbes’ list of the world’s highest-paid DJs. And in 2013, they became the first electronic music act to sell out Madison Square Garden.

Though they only released a handful of official tracks during their career, Swedish House Mafia left a lasting impact on dance music. They helped popularize the “drops” and big build-ups that are now commonplace in EDM, and their grandiose production style influenced a new generation of producers.

After Swedish House Mafia disbanded, Axwell and Ingrosso continued making music together as a duo. Angello went on to pursue a solo career. But in 2018, rumors began circulating that the group might reunite for a series of shows or a new album. And on March 25th, 2019, Swedish House Mafia made their triumphant return with a performance at Ultra Music Festival in Miami.

Though it remains to be seen what the future holds for Swedish House Mafia, there’s no doubt that they are one of the most important groups in dance music history.

The members of Swedish House Mafia

The members of Swedish House Mafia are Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso. The three producers first worked together on the track “Leave the World Behind” in 2008.

The group’s musical style

Swedish House Mafia was a Swedish electronic dance music trio consisting of disc jockeys and producers Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso. The group officially formed in late 2008, and were placed at number ten on the DJ Magazine Top 100 DJ Poll 2011 and have been called “the faces of mainstream progressive house music.” In the DJ Magazine Top 100 Poll 2012 they were ranked at number twelve. On June 24th 2012, the group announced via their website that they would split up after completing a world tour, which ended at Ultra Miami 2013 on March 24th 2013.

During their career, the trio played shows all over the world to crowds numbering in their millions; their tour Nocturnal Wonderland was one of the largest electronic dance music festivals held in North America at the time. Swedish House Mafia have produced four top ten singles; “One (Your Name)”, “Miami 2 Ibiza”, “Save the World”, and “Don’t You Worry Child”. All three have reached platinum or higher certification in several countries including the UK, Denmark, Sweden and the US. At present, they hold the record for being the only artist to ever have three songs enter straight into the UK top ten.

They became the first ever duo or group to headline Coachella, Ultra Music Festival, Creamfields, and Electric Daisy Carnival simultaneously.

The group’s influence on the music industry

Swedish House Mafia was a Swedish electronic music supergroup consisting of Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso. The group officially formed in late 2008, and announced their farewell tour in 2012, which was billed as the “One Last Tour”.

The group’s influence on the music industry has been monumental, and their impact is still felt today. Swedish House Mafia is credited with popularizing the “drop” – a structural break in a song characterized by a sudden change in intensity or tempo – which has become one of the most commonly used elements in dance music. The group’s unique sound, blending elements of house, techno and electro, is also credited with helping to bring dance music to a mainstream audience.

In addition to their influence on the sound of dance music, Swedish House Mafia is also responsible for popularizing many of the production techniques that are now commonplace in the genre. Their use of ultra-wide stereo field recordings, layered synth melodies and distorted basslines helped to define the sound of modern dance music and paved the way for future producers to experiment with new sonic possibilities.
