Introduction
There’s no doubt that 2015 was a big year for house music. From Disclosure’s massive album Caracal to Jamie xx’s much-awaited In Colour LP, there were plenty of full-length releases to get excited about. But it wasn’t just the albums that made 2015 such a great year for the genre—there were also a plethora of excellent singles and EPs, many of which didn’t make it onto our list of the 50 best house tracks of the year.
What is House Music?
House music is a genre of electronic dance music that originated in Chicago in the early 1980s. It was initially popularized in nightclubs by DJ Chicago local Frankie Knuckles, who is sometimes credited as the “father of house”. House music quickly spread to other American cities such as Detroit, New York City, and Philadelphia, where it developed further. By the mid-1980s, house music had become a global phenomenon, being popular in both Europe and North America.
The Best House Music of 2015
DJ Snake – “Turn Down for What”
DJ Snake is a French DJ and record producer of electronic music. His song “Turn Down for What” was released in 2013. The song was a commercial success, peaking at number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and becoming a top 10 hit in several other countries.
Calvin Harris – “Outside”
Calvin Harris is a Scottish DJ, singer, songwriter and record producer. He is known for his singles “We Found Love”, “This Is What You Came For” and “My Way”. His debut album, I Created Disco, was released in June 2007 and contained the top-ten singles “Acceptable in the 80s” and “The Girls”. His second album, Ready for the Weekend (2009), reached number one on the UK Albums Chart and include four top ten singles, “I’m Not Alone”, “Ready for the Weekend”, “Flashback” and “Drink”. Harris’s third album, 18 Months (2012), saw him achieve mainstream international success with the title track.[1][2] He has also released two other studio albums, Motion (2014)
and Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 (2017).[3][4]
Harris has won three Grammy Awards[5] and was nominated for four Brit Awards in 2011 and 2012. He was ranked at number ten on Forbes’ list of highest-paid DJs of 2013[6] and list of Electronic Cash Kings in 2013.[7][8] Outside of his musical career, Harris owns an undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Aberdeen[9] and supported Scottish independence in 2014.[10][11][12] He reportedly had a net worth of over £105 million as of July 2017.[13]
Tchami – “Promesses”
“Promesses” is a song by French producer Tchami, featuring vocals from Kaleem Taylor. It was released on 29 September 2014 as a digital download on iTunes and Beatport. The song has peaked to number 1 in Belgium (Wallonia), Denmark and the Netherlands.
The song was written by Tchami, Kaleem Taylor and Sarah Rebecca Charlton. “Promesses” was produced by Tchami. The song’s title refers to the concept of promises and features dancefloor-ready production with a gospel element.

All in all, this year’s house music scene was very exciting. We saw a lot of new faces and a lot of fresh new sounds. We can’t wait to see what next year has in store for us.
