The 2015 Blues Music Awards were announced last night, and the results are in! Here are the winners in each category.

Introduction

The 2015 Blues Music Awards were held in Memphis, TN on May 7, 2015. The awards are put on by The Blues Foundation, an organization created in 1980 to preserve blues heritage, celebrate recording and performance excellence, expand worldwide awareness of the blues, and ensure the future of this uniquely American art form.

Blues music has been around for over a century, and is truly a music genre that has something for everyone. There are many different sub-genres of blues music, all with their own unique sound and feel. Whether you’re a fan of electric blues, Delta blues, Chicago blues, or any other type of blues music, there’s sure to be something at the 2015 Blues Music Awards that will interest you.

This year’s event featured performances by some of the biggest names in blues music, as well as many up-and-coming artists. In addition to the musical performances, there were also awards given out in various categories such as “Best Album,” “Best Song,” “Best Band,” and more.

History of the Awards

The 2015 Blues Music Awards will be the 36th annual event, and will be held in Memphis, Tennessee on May 7. The awards are given out by the Blues Foundation, which is a non-profit organization founded in 1980 to promote the blues through education and preservation.

The first awards ceremony was held in January of 1985, and awarded musicians in 19 different categories. The award for “Best Lifetime Achievement” was not given out until 1986, when it was presented to Muddy Waters. In 1988, the award renamed the “Best Electric Blues Album” category to “Best Traditional Blues Album”, and added a new category for “Best Contemporary Blues Album”. In 1989, the “Best Historical Album” category was added.

2015 Nominees

The Blues Foundation is pleased to announce the nominees for The 39th Blues Music Awards. These awards, which are universally recognized as the highest honor given to blues musicians, are based on votes from members of The Blues Foundation and hand-selected blues professionals from around the world. Winners will be announced at the 39th Annual Blues Music Awards ceremony, presented by FirstMerit Bank, on Thursday, May 7, 2015, at the Cook Convention Center in Memphis, TN. Doors will open at 5:30 pm with the awards ceremony beginning at 7:00 pm.

This year’sLineup of nominees features many new artists and a wide variety of music that encompasses everything from traditional and contemporary blues to rockin’ blues and soul. Nine different artists are represented in the prestigious B.B. King Entertainer of the Year category which is voted on by The Blues Foundation’s membership. Wayne Baker Brooks and Joe Bonamassa are nominated for a second consecutive year in this category. Two-time Grammy award-winning artist Ben Harper returns to the nominee list after a five year hiatus in the Instrumentalist – Guitar category whileShemekia Copelandis nominated for a third year in a row as Contemporary Female Artist of the Year.

Performances

The 2015 Blues Music Awards were held on May 7, 2015 at the Memphis Cook Convention Center in Memphis, Tennessee. The awards show was hosted by Shemekia Copeland and featured performances by Albert King, Bobby “Blue” Bland, B.B. King, Mick Jagger, Joe Bonamassa, Gary Clark Jr., and many more.
