History of Radio City Music Hall
Radio City Music Hall is an entertainment venue at 1260 Avenue of the Americas, within Rockefeller Center, in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. Nicknamed the Showplace of the Nation, it was for a time the leading tourist destination in the city. Its interior was declared a city landmark in 1978.
The hall was designed by architect Edward Durell Stone and interior designer Thomas Hastings, with a concert hall that seats 5,931 people and a stage that accommodates up to 100 performers. It opened on December 27, 1932, with a stage show featuring Ray Bolger, Tyrannosaurus rex skeletons from the American Museum of Natural History and dancers from the Charles Weidman Company on its opening night. The first film shown at Radio City was Walt Disney’s 1933 classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Reggae Concert Details
On June 25, Radio City Music Hall will host a reggae concert featuring some of the biggest names in the genre. The concert will feature headliners Ziggy Marley and Stephen Marley, along with Augustus Pablo, Lee “Scratch” Perry, and Sly and Robbie.
The concert will be a celebration of the history and culture of reggae music, and will feature performances of some of the genre’s classic songs. In addition to the performances, there will also be a documentary film screening and a Q&A session with the artists.
