The making of the video
This video was filmed in one day in Los Angeles. We started filming at 8am and wrapped at 8pm. We had a great time making this video and we hope you enjoy it!
The concept
The original idea for the “Uptown Funk” video was to have a few hundred Terminators dancing around. However, the team soon realized that this would be too expensive, so they decided to use robots instead.
The video was shot in two days, with the help of over 30 volunteers. It took another week to edit the footage and add the special effects.
Many of the robots featured in the video are from ABC’s “BattleBots” television series. The team made sure to include a variety of different robot types, so that everyone could find their favorite.
The “Uptown Funk” video has been a huge success, with over 100 million views on YouTube. It has also inspired other videos, including a parody version with cats and a German version with chickens.
The filming
The filming for the video took place on October 10th and 11th in Los Angeles, and was directed by would-be filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson. The filming was done in one take with twenty-eight different angles, which were then cut together to make the final product. The video features Anderson himself as the lead dancer, as well as a number of other talented performers.
The editing
Music videos are usually edited after the filming process is complete, but “Uptown Funk” took a different approach. The video was filmed in one continuous shot, with the dancers and robotic props dancing and moving around the set in real time. This required an enormous amount of coordination and rehearsal, both on the part of the dancers and the video’s crew.
Once the footage was filmed, it was then sent to special effects artists who added in the robotic elements. This gave the impression that they were dancing alongside the humans, even though they were not actually present during filming. The final product is a fun and festive music video that is sure to get you up and moving!
