What is a Constraint?
A constraint is a limit on the video that you set in order to force yourself to be more creative. It can be anything from using only a certain number of shots, to setting a time limit, to only shooting in black and white. The key is to choose something that will make the process of creating the video more challenging, and therefore more rewarding.
For this project, we’re going to set the constraint of only using one shot. This means that the entire video must be captured in a single take. This will force us to be more creative in how we framing and editing the video, and it will also make us more mindful of every detail since we won’t be able to rely on cutting away from mistakes.
Of course, setting a constraint is not mandatory, but we highly recommend it as it will help you stretch your creativity and learn more about the process of making a music video.
Applying a Constraint to the Don Funk Music Video
In order to keep the focus of our project on music composition and video editing, we are going to set a constraint for the Don Funk music video. The video must be no longer than three minutes in length. This will force us to be creative with our song choice and video footage, and make sure that every element of the video is purposeful. We think this will make for a more creative and interesting final product.
