The Temptations
The Temptations are considered by many to be one of the best soul music groups of all time. Formed in Detroit, Michigan in the early 1960s, the group was originally known as The Elgins. They changed their name to The Temptations in 1961 and went on to release a string of hits including “My Girl”, “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg”, and “Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)”. The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989 and their work has been celebrated with a number of honors, including a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Marvin Gaye
Marvin Gaye was an American singer, songwriter and record producer. He helped to shape the sound of Motown in the 1960s, first as an in-house session player and later as a solo artist with a string of hits, including “Ain’t That Peculiar”, “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)” and “I Heard It Through the Grapevine”, and duet recordings with Mary Wells, Kim Weston, Diana Ross and Tammi Terrell, later earning the titles “Prince of Motown” and “Prince of Soul”. During the 1970s, he recorded the concept albums What’s Going On and Let’s Get It On. Gaye’s later recordings influenced several contemporary R&B subgenres, such as quiet storm and neo soul.
Gaye was born Marvin Pentz Gay Jr. on April 2, 1939, in Washington, D.C., to church minister Marvin Gay Sr. and domestic worker Alberta Gay. As a child, Gaye was physically abused by his father; at age nine he was raped by a male friend; at age 17 he shot his father in self-defense after being threatened with a razor blade by him following an unsuccessful intervention by his mother to stop his father from beating him yet again; these incidents greatly affected him throughout his life. As a teenager, Gaye dropped out of high school owing to academic problems caused by undiagnosed dyslexia which plagued him throughout his schooling years; he later obtained his GED but did not pursue studies past this point. At an early age Marvin began singing in church choirs; he also learned to play piano and drums before moving out on his own at the age of eighteen during which time he changed his surname from “Gay” to its original family name spelling “Gaye”, believing that this would better reflect on his stage performance persona as well having personal connotations for him.

Al Green is an American singer, songwriter and record producer, best known for recording a series of soul hit singles in the early 1970s, including “Tired of Being Alone”, “I’m Still in Love with You”, “Love and Happiness”, and his signature song, “Let’s Stay Together”.

The Spinners
The Spinners are an American Rhythm and Blues group from Detroit, Michigan. The group’s greatest hit records came during the 1970s. They are also listed as one of the best-selling R&B groups of all time. The group still tours today with new lead singer Charlton Washington.
The Spinners were formed in 1954 in Ferndale, Michigan, by high school students George W. Clinton, Henry Fambrough, C.P. Spencer, and James Edwards. The group was first called the Domingoes, and then the Bobbies. They began performing for local audiences in 1957.
In 1961, the group signed with Motown Records and changed their name to The Spinners. Their first hit record was “I’ll Be Around”, which reached #1 on the Billboard R&B chart in 1972 and #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The group continued to have success with hits like “Could It Be I’m Falling in Love”, “One of a Kind (Love Affair)”, and “The Rubberband Man”.
The Spinners were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000.
The Stylistics
The Stylistics are an American soul music group, formed in 1968 in Philadelphia. They were created by producer / songwriter Thom Bell and featured the lead vocals of Russell Thompkins, Jr. The group’s hits include “Betcha by Golly Wow”, “You Make Me Feel Brand New”, “Break Up to Make Up”, and “I’m Stone in Love with You”. The Stylistics were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2005. They were also inducted into the Casino Legends Hall of Fame at Tropicana Las Vegas.
The Delfonics
The Delfonics is an American R&B/soul musical group from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States that formed in 1965. They are known for their hits such as “La-La (Means I Love You)”, “Didn’t I (Blow Your Mind This Time)”, and “Ready or Not Here I Come (Can’t Hide from Love)”. Willie Hutch, Kenneth Gamble, and Thom Bell were major contributors to the group’s success. The Delfonics have been credited as one of the first groups to have the Philly sound.

Entering the 1970s, the Dramatics were one of the most successful R&B groups of the previous decade. With a string of hits that included “In the Rain” and “Whatcha See is Whatcha Get,” the group had solidified its place in Soul music history. But by the middle of the decade, the group was facing some internal turmoil, which led to a number of lineup changes. Despite these challenges, they continued to record and release new music throughout the decade, including the album “The Underrated.”

The band was led by lead singer, strategist, and songwriter Curtis Mayfield for nearly its entire history.
