The Canadian Folk Music Awards are back for 2012, and we’ve got a roundup of the best of the bunch! From traditional to contemporary, there’s something for everyone on this list.

The Awards Show

The Canadian Folk Music Awards are an annual event that celebrates the best and brightest in Canadian Folk Music. The Awards Show is always a great event, full of music and laughter. This year’s show was no different, with some amazing performances and some very deserving winners.

The nominees

The Best of the Canadian Folk Music Awards 2012 includes Best Album, Best Songwriter, Best Traditional Album, Best Contemporary Album, and the People’s Choice Award. The nominees for each category are listed below.

Best Album:

The winners

The Canadian Folk Music Awards announced the winners of their 2012 awards show last night. This year’s awards show was handed out in 11 different categories, with the top prize going to Tim Hicks for his album “Throw Down” in the Roots & Traditional Album of the Year: Solo category.

Other winners included Le Vent du Nord in the Traditional Album of the Year category, Dublin-based folk band WeBanjo3 in the Instrumental Group of the Year category, and Joey Landreth in the Contemporary Singer of the Year category.

The Canadian Folk Music Awards were created in 2006 to recognize achievements in Canadian folk, roots, and world music. The awards are given out annually, with nominated artists and albums coming from across Canada. This year’s awards ceremony was held in Edmonton, Alberta on November 17, 2012. The jury for the Canadian Folk Music Awards is comprised of highly knowledgeable and experienced folk, roots and world music professionals from across Canada. Nominations are based on submissions from the public and a point system is used to determine the finalists. The finalists are then voted on by the jury to determine the winners in each category.
