Another popular form of Magyar folk music is verbunkos. Verbunkos is a type of dance music that was popular in the 18th and 19th centuries among the lower classes in Hungary. It was often used as a recruiting tool by the Austrian army because it was so catchy and upbeat. Verbunkos typically has a slow first section followed by a faster second section. The music is usually accompanied by violins and cimbaloms.
