Biography

Adamari Lopez is a Puerto Rican actress and television presenter. She began her career as a child star, appearing in various soap operas and telenovelas. In 1998, she won the prestigious Premio Lo Nuestro a la Excelencia award. She has since appeared in numerous films and television shows, including the hit telenovelas Al Diablo con los Guapos (2007) and Mariposa de Barrio (2017). In 2018, she won the Latin American Music Award for Best Female Telenovela Actress.

Actress and singer Adamari Lopez took home the award for Latin American Music Award at the awards show on Thursday night. The Latin American Music Awards are presented by the Latin Recording Academy to recognize the outstanding achievements of Latin artists in the field of music.

History

The Latin American Music Awards (LAMA) is an annual awards show created by the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) and Dick Clark Productions. The awards ceremony honors the most popular artists in Latin music, as determined by ABC radio stations across the United States. It is the only major music awards show that is broadcast entirely in Spanish.

The first edition of the Latin American Music Awards was held on October 8, 2015, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California. The show was hosted by Mexican actress and television presenter Ana de la Reguera. Armenian-American singer-songwriter Serj Tankian served as the musical director for the ceremony.

The second edition of the Latin American Music Awards was held on October 6, 2016, at the Dolby Theatre. Puerto Rican singer Roselyn Sánchez and Mexican television personality Jaime Camil served as co-hosts for the ceremony. Venezuelan-American musician Edward Punales served as the musical director.

The third edition of the Latin American Music Awards was held on October 25, 2017, at The Forum in Inglewood, California. Mexican television personality Luis Fonsi and Venezuelan-American singer Nacho served as co-hosts for the ceremony. Colombian musician Andrés Castro served as the musical director.

The fourth edition of the Latin American Music Awards was held on October 17, 2018, at The Forum. Puerto Rican comedian and actress Gladys Rodriguez and Cuban-American television personality Giselle Blondet served as co-hosts for the ceremony. Puerto Rican musician Juan Luis Guerra served as the musical director.

Criteria

The Latin American Music Awards are awarded annually by the television network Telemundo. The awards recognize excellence in Latin music, including Pop, Tropical, Regional Mexican, Rock, and Urban music.

Eligible artists must have released an album or single within the eligibility period, which runs from June 1 of the prior year to May 31 of the current year. Additionally, artists must have been actively promoted by their record label during the eligibility period.
