Newsted is the new album from former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted. The album is a return to his metal roots, and features some of the heaviest music he’s ever made.

Jason Newsted is a rock musician, best known as the bassist for the American heavy metal band Metallica from 1986 until 2001, and as a founding member of Canadian rock band Voivod. Newsted wrote and performed on four Metallica studio albums: ..And Justice for All, Metallica, Load, and Reload. He was also the bassist on the live albums Live Shit: Binge & Purge and Cunning Stunts.

In January 2001, Jason Newsted left Metallica; he was replaced by Robert Trujillo the following month. Metallica has not officially released any material since Newsted’s departure.

Newsted is the debut solo album by former Metallica, Voivod and Flotsam and Jetsam bassist Jason Newsted, released on January 8, 2013 by Chophouse Records and Collected Works Records. The album was recorded in two days atsound distributor NRG Recording Services in North Hollywood, California, and was produced by Newsted and Mike Caltagirone.

Newsted is the debut solo album by former Metallica, Voivod and Flat Earth bassist Jason Newsted, released on January 8, 2013, through Chophouse Records and his own label, Soldier Sounds. The album was recorded in 2012 at Newsted’s studio in Walpole, Massachusetts and was produced by Newsted and Draculina. Newsted wrote all of the album’s music and lyrics himself.

The album’s first single, “Soldier”, was released on October 15, 2012, followed by the second single “King of the Underdogs” on November 12. “Skyscraper” was released as a single on December 17. To promote the album, Newsted went on a brief North American tour in January 2013 with support from Down.
