The Psychedelic Furs Release First Album

The Psychedelic Furs released their self-titled debut album in February of 1977. The album was well received by fans of the punk and new wave genres, but it was not a commercial success. Undeterred, the band released their second album, “Talk Talk Talk”, in 1981. This time, the album was a hit, reaching #3 on the UK charts and #70 on the US Billboard 200. The success of the album established the Psychedelic Furs as one of the leading bands of the new wave movement.

The Psychedelic Furs scored their first Alternative Rock chart topper with “Heaven,” the lead single from their 1989 album, Book of Days. The Furs previously topped Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Tracks chart with “Love My Way” in 1982.

“Heaven” hit its peak of #1 on the Alternative Rock chart dated June 24, 1989. The track stayed at the top spot for two weeks.

After a 34-year career, The Psychedelic Furs have finally announced their farewell album titled “Made of Rain.”

The Furs formed in 1977 in London. Their unique mix of post-punk and new wave fueled by Richard Butler’s searing lead vocals and John Ashton’s guitar jangle made them one of the most original bands of the era. The Furs scored their first alternative radio hit with “Pretty in Pink,” which was later used in the John Hughes film of the same name. The band continued to chart throughout the 1980s with such singles as “Love My Way,” “The Ghost in You,” and “Heartbreak Beat.”

After disbanding in 1991, The Psychedelic Furs reconvened for a successful reunion tour in 2000. They released a new album, “Beautiful Chaos: Greatest Hits Live,” in 2001.

The Psychedelic Furs Reunite

In May of this year, the Furs announced that they would be going on tour with Interpol—one of the most popular rock bands of the early 2000s.

The Psychedelic Furs are most known for their 1981 hit “Pretty in Pink”. The song was ranked #13 on Billboard’s Top 100 and #1 on Billboard’s Alternative Rock Chart. The song was featured in the 1986 movie Pretty in Pink which starred Molly Ringwald.

The band continued to produce successful albums throughout the 80s such as Mirror Moves and Midnight to Midnight. The Psychedelic Furs went on hiatus in 1991 but reformed in 2000 and have been touring ever since.

The Psychedelic Furs continue to be an iconic alternative rock band and prove that they are still relevant almost four decades after they first started making music.

After a four-year hiatus, The Psychedelic Furs are back with a brand new album, Heaven. The record was released on May 5th, 2017 and debuted at number one on the Billboard Alternative Rock chart.
