The American Music Award for Favorite Album Soul/R&B is an award given to the best album in the Soul/R&B genre. The nominees are selected by a panel of experts, and the winner is voted on by the public. The award was first given out in 1974, and has been given out every year since then. past winners include Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and Beyoncé.

History of the award

The American Music Award for Favorite Album Soul/R&B has been awarded since 1974. Years reflect the year in which the awards were presented, for works released in the previous year. The all-time winner in this category is Michael Jackson, with six wins. Jackson won the award every year from 1984 to 1990.

In recent years, the preferred format for music has shifted from albums to digital singles and streams. As a result, many awards shows have moved away from awarding traditional album of the year categories. The American Music Awards are one of the few remaining shows that still honors albums in multiple genres.
