The B-Sides

The Anthology of American Folk Music: The B-Sides is a collection of folk songs released in 2013. The album is a sequel to the 1952 release of The Anthology of American Folk Music, which was compiled by Harry Smith.

The B-sides consists of songs that were not included on the original release, as well as alternate versions and previously unreleased tracks. The album includes tracks by artists such as Woody Guthrie, Lead Belly, and Pete Seeger.

The C-Sides

The C-Sides of The Anthology of American Folk Music are a continuation of the series of discs released by Folkways Records in 1952. The C-Sides are a collection of field recordings made by musicologist and folklorist Alan Lomax and his colleagues between 1934 and 1937.

The collection includes recordings of religious music, work songs, ballads, children’s songs, and game songs from all over the United States. Many of the recordings were made in prisons, on plantations, and in other isolated locations.

As with the other discs in the series, the C-Sides were compiled by musicologist Harry Smith and released on Folkways Records in 1952.

The D-Sides

This anthology contains a wealth of material that was not included on the original release of The Anthology of American Folk Music. The so-called D-sides feature folk musicians from all over the United States, performing a wide variety of songs and tunes.

There is something here for everyone, from familiar favorites like ” Buffalo Gals” and “Cindy, Oh Cindy” to more obscure pieces like “The Kentucky Bootlegger” and “The Young Fisherman.” As with the original anthology, the D-sides offer a fascinating glimpse into the varied musical traditions of America.
