The Sound of Music is a Rodgers and Hammerstein musical set in the Austrian Alps during the early 1900s. The story follows a young woman named Maria, who is sent to live with a widowed captain and his seven children. While there, she teaches the children how to sing and brings joy back into the household. The Sound of Music comes to Atlanta Opera this October.

Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music is one of the most beloved musicals of all time. The story of Maria von Trapp and her seven children who escape Nazi-occupied Austria has captivated audiences for decades, and the film adaptation starring Julie Andrews is one of the most popular movies ever made. Now, Atlanta Opera is thrilled to bring this timeless classic to the stage.

The Sound of Music will be directed by Tony Award nominee James Brennan, with music direction by Tim Myers and choreography by Joni Lynn Schulz. This will be a brand new production, with majestic sets and gorgeous costumes that will transport you to the Austrian Alps.

The Sound of Music features some of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s most well-known songs, including “My Favorite Things,” “Edelweiss,” and of course, “The Sound of Music.” Whether you’re seeing the show for the first time or the hundredth, this production is sure to delight.

This will be the first time that the Atlanta Opera will be putting on the production and they are very excited.
