Here are five Australian electronic music artists who are making waves both at home and abroad. You need to know them!

Flume

Harley Edward Streten, better known by his stage name Flume, is an Australian electronic musician. His self-titled debut studio album, Flume, was released on 9 November 2012 to positive reviews, reaching number one on the Australian iTunes charts and number two on the ARIA Albums Chart.

Streten began producing music at the age of thirteen, using Logic Pro and GarageBand. He signed a record deal with Future Classic in 2011. His album was nominated for Best Dance/Electronica Album at the 2014 ARIA Music Awards. In 2013, he won Best Female Artist and Best Breakthrough Artist at the FBi SMAC Awards.

Flume has released two studio albums, one mixtape, one extended play, twenty-three singles (including six as a featured artist), and ten remixes.

Alison Wonderland is an Australian DJ, producer, and singer who first gained attention with the release of her debut studio album, Run, in 2015. The album reached #1 on the ARIA charts and #2 on the Billboard dance/electronic albums chart, and its lead single, “Run,” went to #1 on the ARIA dance chart. Alison has since released two more studio albums, Awake (2018) and Fearless (2020), both of which topped the ARIA charts. She has also collaborated with the likes of Diplo, Skrillex, and Charlie XCX.

SOPHIE

SOPHIE is one of the most exciting and innovative producers in electronic music today. Hailing from Australia, her unique brand of music has won her a loyal following all over the world.

SOPHIE’s music is characterized by its use of heavy bass and distorted vocals. Her songs are often described as “aggressive” and “hard-hitting”, but they also have a surprising amount of melody and harmony.

Despite only releasing a handful of singles, SOPHIE has already made a big impact on the electronic music scene. She has been nominated for a Grammy Award, and her song “Bipp” was named one of the best songs of 2014 by Pitchfork.
