Background

Blues Traveler is an American rock band formed in 1987 in Princeton, New Jersey. The band’s music covers a variety of genres, including blues rock, psychedelic rock, soul, and Southern rock. They are known for improvisation within their live performances and songs, and were considered a “one-hit wonder” for their top 40 hit “Run-Around.” However, the band has continued to produce music and tour throughout their career; they have released 13 studio albums, two live albums, and one compilation album.

The band’s original lineup consisted of John Popper (lead vocals and harmonica), Chan Kinchla (guitar), Brendan Hill (drums), Bobby Sheehan (bass guitar), and Tad Kinchla (keyboards/percussion). Conclusion

Blues Traveler closed out their performance at Newport Music Hall with a resounding cover of “The Weight” by The Band. The bluesy, uptempo rendition had the crowd on their feet and cheering for more.

The setlist for the evening was a good mix of old and new material, with hits like “Run-Around” and “Hook” balanced out by some of the band’s more recent releases. John Popper’s harmonica playing was, as always, one of the highlights of the show. His solo during “But Anyway” was particularly impressive.

Overall, it was a great show from a band that always brings its A-game to live performances. If you haven’t seen Blues Traveler in concert before, you’re missing out on one of the most fun live acts around today.
