Introduction
Space bass player and P-Funk founding member Bootsy Collins and his latest band of merry men (and women) the Disciples of Funk bring the party to you in the official music video for their title track. “Disciples of Funk” is the first single from Collins’ upcoming album The Power of One, set for release on September 9th. The funky bass icon is joined by an all-star cast of musical disciples including Buckethead, Frank Kash Waddington, Blackbyrd McKnight, Greg Thomas, Gary “Mudbone” Cooper, Robert Johnson Jr.,py steps into the spotlight with some serious swagger on this James Brown-inspired banger.
The Funkadelic Years
The Funkadelic Years is a 1996 compilation album of music recorded by the James Brown band The JBs featuring Bootsy Collins during the early 1970s.
The album was released on October 8, 1996 by Charly Records and features twelve tracks recorded between 1971 and 1973. The tracks on The Funkadelic Years were all written by Bootsy Collins with the exception of “Doing It to Death” which was co-written with James Brown.
The Funkadelic Years peaked at number forty-two on the UK R&B Albums chart.
The Bootsy Years
Bootsy Collins (born October 26, 1951) is an American musician and singer-songwriter.Collins is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, inducted in 1997 with fifteen other members of Parliament-Funkadelic.He was also inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2008.He has received five Grammy Awards.
Collins’s Father, Jethro Collins played drums with James Brown and The Famous Flames, while his mother Nancy was a singer with The Sweet Inspirations who sang backup for Brown, Elvis Presley and Aretha Franklin. As he says in his autobiography The Funk Universe – Bootsy?, “My mother sang in church…bootsy hear music out there from the street that our words couldn’t explain.” He would later file for bankruptcy after investing his entire life savings into recording equipment that became outdated by the time he finished paying for it.
