C.A. House of Music was originally established in Parkersburg, West Virginia in 1867 by Charles A. House. The music store was a source of livelihood for the House family for many years. In the early days, the store only sold and rented musical instruments.

Founded by Charles and Annabelle House

The C.A. House of Music was founded in Parkersburg, WV by Charles and Annabelle House in the early 1900s. They were music educators and performers who recognized the need for a music store in their community. The C.A. House of Music quickly became the go-to place for musical instruments and supplies, and was also a gathering place for local musicians. The C.A. House of Music remained in business for over 50 years, until it closed its doors in the late 1950s.

Charles Anthony “C.A.” House (1882-1963) was a musician and band leader in Parkersburg, West Virginia. He was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia, to Benjamin and Augusta House. He had four sisters and one brother. His father was a musician and his mother was a homemaker. C.A. House began playing the piano at the age of six and the violin at the age of eight. He attended high school in Clarksburg and graduated in 1901.

He married Annabelle Hoover in 1902 and they had four children: Charles Jr., Augusta, David, and Kenneth. C.A. House played the violin in various orchestras around Parkersburg and also led his own band, “C.A. House’s Orchestra.” The orchestra played at dances, socials, and other events in Parkersburg and surrounding areas. In addition to leading his orchestra, C.A. House also taught music lessons out of his home on Juliana Street in Parkersburg.

Annabelle died in 1932 and C.A.’s children were adults by this time. His son David (1910-1996) married Lisa Rickey (1913-1997) in 1934, and they had four children: Charles III (1935-2002), Robert (1936-2014), Annabelle (1938- ), and Sarah (1941- ). David was also a musician and he played the trumpet in his father’s orchestra as well as other local bands

C.A. House of Music is a music store that was founded in Parkersburg, West Virginia in 1965. The store sells a variety of musical instruments and supplies, and also offers music lessons. C.A. House of Music is currently owned and operated by Charles and Ann House, who purchased the store in 2001.

David and Lisa House purchased C.A. House of Music in Parkersburg, WV in March of 2018. Although the store has been in business since the early 1900s, they are only the third owners. The House’s have continued the stores tradition of offering quality musical instruments and service while also expanding the inventory to include a wide variety of items for musicians of all levels.

The store offers guitars, basses, amplifiers, keyboards, drums, music books, and much more. In addition to selling instruments, they also offer instrument rentals and repairs. The showroom will be open to the public seven days a week, and will offer demonstrations and workshops on how to play various instruments.
