In a recent blog post, we took a look at what Christian hip-hop music is missing. We noted that the genre often lacks the depth and creativity that can be found in other genres of music. We also noted that Christian hip-hop music often fails to address important social issues.

In this post, we want to take a closer look at what Christian hip-hop music is missing. We’ll discuss some of the specific elements that are often lacking in the genre. We

The current state of Christian Hip-Hop

There is no denying that Christian Hip-Hop has come a long way since its humble beginnings in the early 1990s. However, some would argue that the current state of Christian Hip-Hop is missing something. In this article, we will take a look at what Christian Hip-Hop is missing and what it needs to get back on track.

The good

There’s no denying that Christian Hip-Hop has come a long way since its humble beginnings in the early 1990s. Artists like Lecrae, Andy Mineo, Tedashii, and Trip Lee have helped to grow the genre into a force to be reckoned with, both commercially and artistically.

And while there’s still room for improvement, Christian Hip-Hop is in a good place overall. The artists mentioned above are all putting out great music that is not only entertaining but also uplifting and thought-provoking. They’re also helping to break down barriers and stereotypes, both within the Church and in the mainstream world.

So yes, there are plenty of good things happening in Christian Hip-Hop right now. But unfortunately, there are also some negatives that need to be addressed.

The bad

It’s no secret that the current state of Christian Hip-Hop is not in a good place. For years now, the genre has been falling behind in both quality and quantity, with very few artists making any sort of impact on the mainstream. This has led to a number of issues, including a decline in sales, a decline in listenership, and an overall decline in interest.

One of the biggest problems facing Christian Hip-Hop is its lack of innovation. In a genre that is constantly evolving, Christian Hip-Hop has remained largely stagnant, sticking to the same sounds and styles that have been popular for years. This has made it incredibly difficult for new artists to break through, as they are often overshadowed by more established names.

Another big issue is the lack of variety within the genre. Christian Hip-Hop has always been dominated by trap music, with very few artists experiment with other styles. This has led to a lot of music sounding alike, which can be extremely off-putting for listeners.

Finally, Christian Hip-Hop has also been held back by its inability to connect with young people. With its focus on God and religion, the genre has failed to speak to the experiences of young people who are struggling with issues like mental health, relationships, and identity. This has resulted in many young people turning away from the genre altogether.

All these factors have combine to create a situation where Christian Hip-Hop is struggling to stay relevant in today’s musical landscape. If the genre wants to survive, it needs to make some major changes ASAP.

What Christian Hip-Hop is missing

I think that Christian Hip-Hop music is missing a few key ingredients. It’s missing the deep, personal connection that other genres have. It’s missing the sense of community and support. Lastly, it’s missing the focus on God and glorifying Him. Let’s talk about each of these points in more detail.

Lyrics that glorify God

As a Christian, I feel that one of the things that is missing from Christian Hip-Hop music is lyrics that glorify God. There are many songs that talk about “living right” and having “faith”, but I feel like there could be more songs that talk about how great God is and how much He has done for us. I think that if more Christian Hip-Hop artists would focus on glorifying God in their lyrics, it would help to change the negative image that some people have of Hip-Hop music.

Music that is Christ-centered

Christian hip-hop is missing music that is Christ-centered. Too often, the focus is on the artist and their story, instead of on Christ and His message. The music should be about Christ and His love for us, not about the artist and their struggles. When the focus is on Christ, the music will be more meaningful and impactful.

Artists that are unashamed of the Gospel

In a recent article, Relevant Magazine writer James Greer lamented the current state of Christian hip-hop, suggesting the music has lost its way and needs to be brought back to its roots. While I appreciate Greer’s sentiment, I believe the problem is not with the music, but with the artists making it.

The issue facing Christian hip-hop is not a lacked of good music, but a lack of artist who are unashamed of the gospel. In an industry where success is often measured by how many secular fans an artist can acquire, it’s no wonder that many in Christian hip-hop have compromised their message in order to “cross over.”

But what if there were more artists making music for the glory of God, instead of their own fame and fortune? What if there were more artist who were unashamed of the gospel and eager to share it with the world? I believe we would see a resurgence in Christian hip-hop that would impact both the church and the culture at large.

How to fix it

There’s no denying that Christian Hip-Hop music has come a long way since its humble beginnings. However, some would argue that it is still missing something. In this article, we’ll take a look at what Christian Hip-Hop music is missing and how to fix it.

Pray for the Christian Hip-Hop industry

One way we could improve the Christian Hip-Hop industry is by praying for it. The Bible tells us to pray for those in authority over us (1 Timothy 2:1-2). If we want to see the Christian Hip-Hop industry change, we need to start by praying for those who are in positions of influence within it.

Prayer is a powerful tool that we can use to change the world around us. When we pray for something, we are aligning our hearts with God’s heart for that thing. As we do this, He begins to work in ways that we could never have imagined.

If you are passionate about seeing the Christian Hip-Hop industry improve, start by spending time praying for it. Here are a few specific things you can pray for:

-For the Christian Hip-Hop industry to be filled with integrity
-For artists within the industry to be bold in their faith
-For the music produced by Christian Hip-Hop artists to be of excellent quality
-For Christian Hip-Hop artists to be a light in the hip-hop world

Take some time today to pray for the Christian Hip-Hop industry. As you do, believe that God is going to do something amazing through this music genre.

Support Christian Hip-Hop artists

So how can you help support Christian Hip-Hop? Here are three ways:

1. Purchase their music
2. Attend their concerts
3. Share their music with others

When you purchase an artist’s music, you are directly supporting them and helping to fund their future projects. Even if you can’t afford to purchase an entire album, every little bit helps and the artist will still appreciate your support. If you’re able to attend one of their concerts, that’s even better! Not only will the artist appreciate your support, but you’ll also get to enjoy a great show. And lastly, sharing their music with others is a great way to help promote them and get more people listening to their music. So if you enjoy Christian Hip-Hop, make sure to support the artists however you can!

Share Christian Hip-Hop with others

If you love Christian Hip-Hop, share it with others! It can be easy to get bogged down in the music we don’t like and to forget about the music we do. So take some time to intentionally share the Christian Hip-Hop you love with your friends, family, and co-workers. You never know who might need to hear a Gospel-centered rap song today.
