In the United States, the song has been adapted into English, both in its original form and as a more modern rendition.

All I Want for Christmas Is You

One of the most popular Christmas songs of all time, “All I Want for Christmas Is You” was written and produced by Mariah Carey and Walter Afanasieff. It was released on October 28, 1994, by Columbia Records as the lead single from Carey’s fourth studio album and first holiday album, Merry Christmas. The song features a simple chord progression and is a classic example of carefree Christmas cheer.

The song’s narrator expresses her love and affection for her significant other, who she hopes will spend the holiday season with her. The lyrics are written in the perspective of a child or young teenager, which is unusual for a pop song written from a first-person perspective. Carey has said that she wrote the song in mind of all the different types of people who celebrate Christmas, including those who don’t have a partner to share the holiday with.

“All I Want for Christmas Is You” has been included on numerous greatest hits and holiday compilation albums, such as Mariah Carey’s Greatest Hits (2001), The Emancipation of Mimi (2005), revocation E=MC² (2008), Merry Christmas II You (2010), Carols & Classics (2011) and Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse (2014). It was also included on Carey’s mealtime Compilation Album All I Want for Christmas Is You and Other Holiday Classics (2010).

The song has been covered by many artists over the years, including Justin Bieber, Michael Bublé, Pentatonix, Celine Dion, Kelly Clarkson, Samuel L. Jackson and Hillary Duff. In 2019, Billboard named it the “No. 1 greatest Christmas pop song of all time.”

Christmas pop songs are popular among kids and families. They are usually happy and upbeat, and often have a Christmas theme. Many of these songs are about Santa, snow, or other Christmas traditions. Christmas pop songs are a great way to get kids into the Christmas spirit, and they can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

Last Christmas

“Last Christmas” is a song by British pop duo Wham!, released on Epic Records in 1984, on a double A-side with “Everything She Wants”. It was written and produced by George Michael, and has been covered by many artists since its original release. The song reached number one in Denmark, Slovenia and Sweden and number two in the Netherlands, Slovakia, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Poland and the United Kingdom. In the UK Singles Chart, the song has charted at number one three times: in 1984 (for two weeks), 2017 (for one week) and 2018 (for four weeks).

The song is about a young woman who regrets giving her heart away to a man who mistreated her. The protagonist addresses her former lover directly on several occasions during the course of the song’s verses: “Last Christmas / I gave you my heart / But the very next day you gave it away”; “Last Christmas / I gave you my heart / But this year to save me from tears / I’ll give it to someone special”; “Once bitten and twice shy / I keep my distance but you still catch my eye.”

In popular culture
“Last Christmas” has been featured in many films and television programmes over the years. In Love Actually (2003), it is played at a staff party when David’s wife Jane Austen sits down at a piano to play it. Australian soap opera Neighbours used it as a central element of their 1985 episode titled “Auld Lang Syne”, which was watched by 20 million people worldwide. In the episode Scrooge McDuck finds himself reliving events from his youth that show how he lost his first girlfriend Faye Tookey to his rival Flintheart Glomgold. The following year he encounters her again as an old woman who is now dying.

Do They Know It’s Christmas?

“Do They Know It’s Christmas?” is a song written in 1984 by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure in reaction to television reports of the 1983–1985 famine in Ethiopia. It was first recorded in a day on 25 November 1984 by Band Aid, a supergroup put together by Geldof, and was released the following week as a non-album single. The single surpassed all previous sales records and became the UK Christmas number one three weeks later.

In October 2014, the song was used as part of the Band Aid 30 charity effort and re-recorded by an ensemble of pop stars including Justin Bieber, One Direction, Bono and Chris Martin. The new version helped raise additional funds for the Ebola crisis in Western Africa. The original version of “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” remains the seventh best-selling single by any artist in UK chart history and has sold more than 3.8 million copies there.

Happy Xmas (War Is Over)

“Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” is a Christmas song released in 1971 as a single by John & Yoko/Plastic Ono Band with the Harlem Community Choir. The lyrics, by John Lennon and Yoko Ono, are set to the traditional English ballad “Skewball”. It was the seventh single release by John & Yoko. It peaked at number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the US, number 2 on the UK Singles Chart, and number 1 on the Irish Singles Chart. Although not originally released as a charitable record, “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” has been associated with various campaigns over subsequent years aimed at raising awareness of various humanitarian causes.
