The Boston Symphony Orchestra is one of the most highly regarded orchestras in the world. They perform at Symphony Hall in Boston, Massachusetts. This week, they will be performing works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Dvořák.
Tanglewood Music Center
Tanglewood Music Center is a music school located in Lenox, Massachusetts, USA. The institution is best known as the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. It was founded in 1937 by George Weston Anderson and has been affiliated with Boston University since 1940. The BSO has been in residence at Tanglewood since 1937, having interrupted its residency only for the war years of 1942–45; the orchestra makes its official Boston debut at Tanglewood each summer.

This week, the Boston Symphony Orchestra is featuring a range of classical pieces. On Thursday, they will be performing Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, and on Friday and Saturday, they will be performing Brahms’ Symphony No. 4. Sunday’s performance will feature a selection of Bach’s works.

Called “the greatest comedy team in the history of opera” by Opera News, soprano Jennifer Johnson Cano and mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke are special guests for a performance of Mozart’s masterpiece The Marriage of Figaro. The two women play the battle-of-the-sexes leads, Countess Almaviva and Susanna. Cano is “a singer of rare beauty and emotional directness” (The New York Times), and Cooke is “a mezzo of creamy richness and modulated power… with a voice that seems to get more beautiful as it climbs” (New York Magazine).

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra performs Tchaikovsky’s “Pathétique” Symphony. Programs:
Orchestra Training Program
This program is for college-age musicians who wish to pursue a career in symphony orchestra playing. Repertoire for the program is drawn from the standard orchestral repertoire and each musician is expected to perform in one of the three orchestra concerts during their stay at Tanglewood.
Fellows Program
The Fellows Program is for college-age musicians who are planning to pursue a career in music performance, composition, or musicology. Fellows participate in weekly seminars, small ensembles, and private lessons, and they perform in at least one departmental concert during their stay at Tanglewood.

Music Director Alan Gilbert leads the New York Philharmonic and Special Guest Artist Renée Fleming in her first Met appearance in six years, on Opening Night of the 2015–16 season. The gala concert features arias and ensembles by Verdi, Wagner, Richard Strauss, Leonard Bernstein, and André Previn.

Boston Symphony Orchestra
The Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO) is an American orchestra based in Boston, Massachusetts. It is one of the five major American symphony orchestras commonly referred to as the “Big Five”. Founded in 1881, the BSO plays most of its concerts at Boston’s Symphony Hall and in the summer performs at Tanglewood. Andris Nelsons is the current music director of the BSO.
