Top 10 clean hip hop songs of 2015

Hip hop has come a long way since its inception in the late 1970s. What started out as a way for young, black men to express themselves has now become a worldwide phenomenon. While the genre has become more mainstream, there are still many artists who are keeping it clean. Here are the top 10 clean hip hop songs of 2015.

J. Cole – “Wet Dreamz”

Although it’s a song about losing one’s virginity, “Wet Dreamz” is still one of the cleanest hip hop songs of 2015. J. Cole tells the story of a young man’s encounter with a girl he likes, and how things quickly escalate between them. Despite the graphic nature of some of the lyrics, they’re still quite tame in comparison to what’s often heard in hip hop music.

Kendrick Lamar – “Alright”

One of the most important tracks off of Kendrick Lamar’s 2015 album “To Pimp A Butterfly,” “Alright” has become an anthem for the Black Lives Matter movement. The positive and hope-filled message of the song stands in contrast to the often-grim reality of police brutality and racism in America. Despite its heavy subject matter, “Alright” is a catchy and infectious track that will stick with you long after you’ve finished listening.

Chance the Rapper – “Angels”

“Angels” by Chance the Rapper is one of the top clean hip hop songs of 2015. The upbeat, positive track features Chance’s trademark good-natured lyrics and catchy flow. The chorus, sung by guest vocalist Saba, is sure to get stuck in your head. Other standout tracks on the album include “Blessings” and “No Problem”.

Logic – “Under Pressure”

Under Pressure is the debut studio album by American rapper Logic. It was released on October 21, 2014, by Def Jam Recordings and Visionary Music Group. The album features guest appearances from Big Sean, Kid Ink, Juicy J, Jessie Reyes and Christina Aguilera. The production on the album was primarily handled by No I.D., with additional production from DJ Dahi, Tae Beast, S1, Dave Free and 6ix.

The album debuted at number four on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 72,000 copies in its first week of release. It also reached the top 40 of both the UK R&B Albums Chart and UK Hip Hop & Grime Albums Chart. The album’s lead single “Buried Alive”, was released on September 29, 2014. Childish Gambino – “So Into You”

This track is playful and fun, with a great message about being fully committed to someone. It’s a feel-good love song that’s perfect for a summer night.

Fetty Wap – “Trap Queen”

Fetty Wap’s career-making single has several things working in its favor. First, its titular heroine is a strong, empowered woman who’s fully in control of her life and situation. Secondly, it’s an ode to the type of woman who’s there for you no matter what, set against a hypnotic, drug-addled trap beat. Lastly, it just plain slaps. If you’re looking for something a little more conscious, though, there are plenty of other options out there.

Wiz Khalifa – “See You Again”

“See You Again” is a song by American rapper Wiz Khalifa, featuring American singer Charlie Puth. The track was commissioned for the soundtrack of the 2015 film Furious 7 as a tribute to actor Paul Walker, who died in a car accident in November 2013. The song peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for twelve weeks and became both Khalifa’s and Puth’s biggest single to date.

Drake – “Hotline Bling”

Drake’s “Hotline Bling” was one of the biggest songs of 2015, and it’s also one of the cleanest. The song is about a former flame who is now living it up without Drake, and it’s full of playful shots at exes (“you used to call me on my cell phone”). Despite the subject matter, there’s nothing too graphic or explicit here, making it a great choice for a clean hip hop playlist.

Big Sean – “Blessings”

Released in February of 2015, “Blessings” is a hip hop song by Big Sean featuring Drake and Kanye West. The song peaked at number 33 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it Sean’s highest charting single as a lead artist. The track was produced by Vinylz and Boi-1da.
