Clovis West High School is proud to offer a variety of instrumental music programs for our students. We have a wide range of ensembles, including symphonic bands, jazz bands, and orchestras, that cater to different interests and levels of ability. Introduction
Clovis West High School offers a well-rounded education that includes not only academics but also the arts. One of the many arts programs offered at Clovis West is instrumental music. The instrumental music program at Clovis West is designed to give students a comprehensive education in music and to prepare them for a career in music if they so choose.
The instrumental music program at Clovis West consists of four different ensembles: the Symphonic Band, the Wind Ensemble, the Jazz Band, and the Pep Band. Each ensemble meets once a week for two hours and performs several times throughout the year. In addition to the weekly ensemble rehearsals, students in the program are also required to take weekly private lessons and participate in weekly sectionals.
The Symphonic Band is the largest of the four ensembles and is made up of students in grades 9-12. The Wind Ensemble is the second largest ensemble and is made up of students in grades 10-12. The Jazz Band is open to students in grades 9-12, and the Pep Band is open to all students enrolled in the instrumental music program.

What Program is Right for Me?
The type of instrument you play will help determine which program is right for you. If you play a string instrument, you will be placed in the String Program. If you play a brass instrument, you will be placed in the Brass Program. If you play a woodwind instrument, you will be placed in the Woodwind Program.
The String Program is open to students who play the violin, viola, cello, or double bass. The Brass Program is open to students who play the trumpet, trombone, French horn, or baritone horn. The Woodwind Program is open to students who play the flute, piccolo, clarinet, saxophone, or oboe.
Each program has its own requirements and expectations. Please consult your teacher or the band director for more information about which program is right for you.
How to Get Involved
There are many ways to get involved in instrumental music at Clovis West High School. The best way to start is by contacting the instrumental music department or attending one of the many events held throughout the year.
Instrumental music programs are offered for all students in grades 9-12. There are three concert bands, two orchestras, and two jazz ensembles. All groups meet during the school day and rehearse once a week. In addition, each group performs in at least two concerts each year. Some groups also compete in festivals and/or tours.
Clovis West also offers a number of extracurricular ensembles, which meet before or after school. These groups include marching band, color guard, winter guard, drumline, jazz combos, and various chamber ensembles.
