What is Contemporary Gospel Music?

Contemporary Gospel Music is a genre of music that is relative to current times, also known as contemporary Christian music (CCM). It’s a cross between traditional gospel music and more popular styles such as hip hop, R&B, Soul and pop. Contemporary Gospel Music first became popular in the 1970s with artists such as The Winans and Andraé Crouch. The genre has since evolved and now includes artists such as Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams and Donnie McClurkin.
