Introduction

This year has been a big one for country music, with several artists releasing hugely successful albums and singles. Here are some of the top country music artists of 2016.

Jason Aldean

Jason Aldean’s album “They Don’t Know” was one of the most successful releases of the year, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 chart and going on to be certified platinum. He also had two number one singles on the Country Airplay chart with “Lights Come On” and “A Little More Summertime”.

Miranda Lambert

Miranda Lambert had a very successful year, winning the Grammy Award for Best Country Album for “The Weight of These Wings” and being nominated for four Academy of Country Music Awards, including Album of the Year. She also released two singles, “Vice” and “We Should Be Friends”, which both reached the top 20 on the Country Airplay chart.

Carrie Underwood

Carrie Underwood had another huge year in 2016, winning three Grammy Awards (including Best Country Solo Performance for “My Favorite Things”) and being nominated for four Academy of Country Music Awards (including Entertainer of the Year). She also released her first album in three years, “Storyteller”, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified platinum.

Blake Shelton

Blake Shelton is an American country music singer and songwriter. In 2001, he made his debut with the single “Austin”. The lead-off single from his self-titled debut album, “Austin” spent five weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. The now Platinum-certified album also produced two more top 20 entries (“All Over Me” and “Ol’ Red”). Although the album was released on Giant Records Nashville, he was transferred to Warner Bros. Records Nashville after Giant closed in late 2001.

Keith Urban

Keith Urban is a new breed of country star. Though he was born in New Zealand and raised in Australia, Keith is one of the most successful country artists of all time. With thirteen studio albums and four Grammy Awards under his belt, Keith is a bona fide superstar. He’s also incredibly popular on social media, with over 2 million followers on Twitter and 5 million likes on Facebook. If you’re a fan of country music, there’s no way you haven’t heard of Keith Urban.

Carrie Underwood

Carrie Underwood is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. She rose to fame as the winner of the fourth season of American Idol, in 2005. Her debut album, Some Hearts, was released in 2005 and is the fastest-selling solo female debut album in country music history. Underwood has since released six more studio albums: Carnival Ride (2007), Play On (2009), Blown Away (2012), Greatest Hits: Decade #1 (2014), Storyteller (2015) and Cry Pretty (2018). She has sold more than 65 million records worldwide.

Underwood has earned numerous awards and accolades, including seven Grammy Awards, 17 Billboard Music Awards, 11 American Music Awards, a Guinness World Record, and induction into both the Grand Ole Opry and Hollywood Walk of Fame. She is also the only female artist to have won all three major country music awards from all three major country music organizations CMA, ACM, and AMA.

Florida Georgia Line

Florida Georgia Line is an American country music duo consisting of vocalists Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley. They have achieved major success since their inception and are best known for their singles “Cruise”, “Get Your Shine On”, and “Dirt”. The duo’s debut album, Here’s to the Good Times, was released in 2012 and is certified quadruple-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Their second album,Anything Goes, was released in 2014. Florida Georgia Line was featured on Forbes’ list of “30 Under 30” for their accomplishments in the music industry.

Jason Aldean

Jason Aldean is an American country music singer. He has won six Country Music Association awards, including the coveted entertainer of the year award, and he has sold more than 10 million albums. His 2013 album, “Night Train,” was certified platinum.

Luke Bryan

Luke Bryan is an American singer and songwriter. He began his music career writing songs for Travis Tritt and Billy Currington before signing with Capitol Nashville in 2007. His debut album, I’ll Stay Me, was released that year and contained the singles “All My Friends Say”, “We Rode in Trucks” and “Country Man”. Bryan’s fourth album, Crash My Party, was released in 2013 and includes the singles “Crash My Party”, “That’s My Kind of Night” and “Drink a Beer”.

Sam Hunt

Sam Hunt is an American singer and songwriter. He was born in Georgia, and his music career began as a songwriter for Nashville artists such as Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, and Reba McEntire. In 2014, he released his debut album, Montevallo, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart and No. 3 on the Billboard 200. His debut single, “Body Like a Back Road,” spent 34 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart, setting a newrecord for the most weeks at No. 1 by a solo artist.

Thomas Rhett

Thomas Rhett scored his first No. 1 album in 2013 with It Goes Like This, powered in part by the Platinum-certified title track. Since then, the Georgia-born singer/songwriter has become one of the format’s most reliable hitmakers. Rhett’s follow-up LP, Tangled Up, produced three chart-toppers (“ crash and burn,” ” die a happy man” and ” star of the show”), earning him the coveted ACM Album of the Year award in 2017. His third studio album, Life Changes, debuted at No. 1 on both the Billboard 200 and Top Country Albums charts in September 2017. The project’s lead single, ” Unforgettable,” is Rhett’s ninth No. 1 hit on the Country Airplay chart.
