History

Country music has a long and rich history dating back to the early years of American music. The genre has its roots in the folk music of the Appalachian region, and it was brought to national prominence by the likes of Jimmie Rodgers and the Carter Family in the 1920s. Over the next few decades, country music evolved into a commercial enterprise, with artists like Hank Williams and Patsy Cline achieving massive success on radio and in concert.

In the 1960s and 1970s, country music became increasingly popular with mainstream audiences, thanks in part to the popularity of the genre’s leading artists, such as Loretta Lynn, Merle Haggard, and Johnny Cash. In recent years, country music has undergone something of a renaissance, with a new generation of artists like Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, and Lady Antebellum bringing fresh energy and style to the genre.
