In 1959, the two stations were acquired by Family Radio, a non-profit founded by Harold Camping. By 1971, its new owner, Heftel Broadcasting had changed the call letters to KEAR-FM and it began airing a beautiful music format similar to that of longtime San Francisco easy listening station KSFO (560 AM), which switched to country music in 1972.
