KNCI 105.1

KNCI 105.1 is the best country music station in Sacramento. It has been voted number one for years, and it’s easy to see why. Station History

KNCI (105.1 MHz “New Country 105.1″) is a commercial FM radio station licensed to Rancho Cordova, California and serving the Greater Sacramento area. The station is owned by Entercom and broadcasts a country music radio format. The studios and offices are on Laguna Boulevard in Elk Grove.

The transmitter is off Latino Way in Citrus Heights, near Highway 80. KNCI has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 100,000 watts, the maximum for non-grandfathered FM stations in the U.S. By day, it uses a tall tower that lifts its signal 454 meters (1,489 feet) above average terrain (HAAT). But at night, to avoid interfering with other stations on 105.1 MHz, it greatly reduces power to 3,400 watts and uses a much shorter tower only 76 meters (249 feet) in height above average terrain (HAAT).

KNCI has been a country music station for all but two years of its history. It first signed on the air on September 1st, 1981 as KCVR-FM ” CV105,” simulcasting the album rock sound of its AM sister station 1320 KCVR-AM

KWOD 106.5 is a country music radio station in Sacramento, California. The station is owned by Entercom and broadcasts at 106.5 MHz. The station is on the air 24 hours a day and plays a mix of contemporary and classic country music.

Station History

KWOD (106.5 FM) was a Top 40 radio station in Sacramento, California, United States. It was Sacramento’s heritage Top 40 station from 1968 to 1991. It was the first Sacramento radio station to play music from artists like Madonna, Prince, Duran Duran, and Depeche Mode. KWOD’s importance to the development of the region’s musical tastes cannot be understated. From 1968 to 1971, it was one of the few places to hear cutting edge music from artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and The Who. KWOD was also one of the first stations in America to play songs by emerging punk and new wave artists such as The Sex Pistols, Blondie and Talking Heads.

In its early years, KWOD’s on-air personnel included “The Real” Don Steele, Bwana Johnny Mitchell, Charlie Tuna, David Gans (later of the Grateful Dead Hour), “Earthquake” Anthony Carey (later mornings on KRTH in Los Angeles) and Larry McCoy (afternoons).
