At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 53, which indicates “mixed or average reviews”, based on 4 reviews. Giving it 2 stars out of 5, Alanna Nash of Entertainment Weekly wrote that “for all his imposing physicality and big voice”, Morgan’s music sounds thinner than that of other contemporary country singers like Brad Paisley and Keith Urban due to its lack of hooks and melody. Nash also said that it sounds as if Morgan is trying too hard to ape their styles while not having enough ideas of his own to fill a whole album’s worth of songs. Adam Greenberg of Allmusic called the album “a strikingly consistent set that has plenty of good moments.” He praised Morgan’s vocal delivery but criticized its monotony after several tracks, saying that he “[sounds] fatigued by the end”.
