Introduction

Dance music is music composed specifically to facilitate or accompany dancing. It can be either a whole musical piece or part of a larger musical arrangement. In terms of performance, the major categories are live dance music and recorded dance music. While there exist attestations of the combination of dance and music in ancient times, the earliest Western dance music that we can still reproduce with a degree of certainty are the surviving medieval dances such as carols and potpourris. In the Baroque period, the major dance styles were noble court dances (see Baroque dance). In the classical music era, the minuet was frequently used as a third movement in four-movement non-vocal works such as sonatas, string quartets, symphonies and concertos. As a result, in the 19th century, music historians generally divide Victorian era ballroom dances into two broad categories: “popular”( partnered )dances and “society” ( solo )dances.

Popular dances included:
Waltz: The waltz is probably the best known and most popular of all ballroom dances. It evolved from an Austrian folk dance called Walzer and first became fashionable in Europe in the early 1800s. The waltz is danced to 3/4 time tempo music played at around 60 beats per minute.
Jive: The Jive is a lively dance originating from America in the 1940s which is still very popular today, especially in Europe where it has become one of the five competitive standard ballroom dances. Jive is danced to fast 4/4 time tempo music between 150–160 bpm played with strong syncopation ?and accent on counts 2 and 4.
Foxtrot: The Foxtrot was invented by Harry Fox in 1914 and was originally danced to Ragtime jazz ?music. It became very popular in America during the 1920s but did not catch on elsewhere until after World War II when it spread worldwide as part of American pop culture . It remains one of the most popular social dances today being danced to almost any style of music including slow ballads , big band , Latin American , disco , rock & roll , etc

What is Hip Hop?

The History of Hip Hop

The history of hip hop can be traced back to the 1970s when DJs in New York City began mixing together tracks from different songs to create a new sound. This new sound quickly caught on with other DJs and soon there was a whole new genre of music being created. Hip hop continued to evolve throughout the 1980s and 1990s, with new styles and subgenres emerging all the time. Today, hip hop is one of the most popular genres of music in the world and shows no signs of slowing down.

The Different Styles of Hip Hop

Hip hop is a genre of music that originated in the United States in the 1970s. It is characterized by a distinctive style of rhythmic music and often requires DJing or turntablism.

There are four different styles of hip hop: old school hip hop, new school hip hop, rap, and trap.

Old school hip hop is the original style of hip hop and is characterized by heavy use of drums, simple melodies, and often times sampling from classic tracks. This style was made famous by artists like DJ Kool Herc, Grandmaster Flash, and Afrika Bambaataa.

New school hip hop developed in the 1980s and is characterized by increased use of synthesizers, samplers, pizzicato strings, and drum machines. This style was made famous by artists like Run-DMC, Public Enemy, and NWA.

Rap is a subgenre of hip hop that focuses on lyrical content. This style was made popular by artists like LL Cool J, Nas, and Notorious B.I.G..

Trap is a subgenre of hip hop that originated in the 1990s in the southern United States. It is characterized by its use of heavy drums and bass with often dark or violent lyrics. This style was popularized by artists like Outkast, Lil Wayne, and Gucci Mane.

The Future of Hip Hop

For many, hip hop is a positive and popular form of expression. It’s a way to tell a story, share an opinion, or just have some fun. Despite its often negative portrayal in the media, hip hop is art and often contains messages of social commentary, political awareness, and personal experience.

The future of hip hop is always changing and evolving. New artists emerge every day and bring their own unique style to the genre. As the world changes, so does hip hop. What was once seen as a fad is now a global phenomenon with a huge following. There is no telling what the future holds for hip hop, but one thing is for sure – it’s here to stay.
