Tour History

Blues Traveler is an American rock band formed in 1987 in Princeton, New Jersey. The band’s music covers a variety of genres, including blues, psychedelic rock, jam band, and pop. The band is known for its improvisational live shows and has sold more than 12 million records worldwide.

Blues Traveler’s first album, Blues Traveler, was released in 1990. The album was not a commercial success, but the singles “Hook” and “But Anyway” became minor hits on modern rock radio. The group’s second album, Save His Soul (1993), fared better commercially, with the singles “Mulling It Over” and “What’s for Breakfast” both becoming top 40 hits on the modern rock charts.

The band’s breakthrough album came with 1994’s four (named for the four members of the band), which reached number eight on the Billboard 200 and was certified double platinum by the RIAA. The album contained the hit singles “Run-Around” and “Hook”, which became two of the group’s most successful songs and won Blues Traveler two Grammy Awards in 1995: one for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal and one for Best Rock Song. 1996 saw the release of the live album Live from New York City 1997, which was followed by another studio album, Straight on till Morning (1997).

The band’s next two albums – Bridge (1999) and Truth Be Told (2001) – were both commercial failures compared to four; neither album produced any charting singles. In 2003, Blues Traveler parted ways with A&M Records and returned to their independent label roots with Save His Soul Music Co./Sanctuary Records. The following year saw the release of their ninth studio album ¡Bastardos!, which received mixed reviews but still managed to debut at number 43 on the Billboard 200 chart.

The band has continued to tour and release new music since then; their most recent album is Hurry Up & Hang Around (2018). They have also toured extensively with fellow jam band favouriteString Cheese Incident.
