Elected in 2013, Mike Duggan is Detroit’s 75th Mayor. A native Detroiter, Mike is a graduate of Detroit Catholic Central High School and the University of Michigan. Prior to being elected Mayor, Mike served as CEO of the Detroit Medical Center (DMC), one of the largest healthcare systems in Michigan.

Under Mayor Duggan’s leadership, Detroit is experiencing a renaissance. Businesses are opening downtown and in neighborhoods all across the city, new jobs are being created and crime is at a 40-year low. In 2017, Mayor Duggan launched Equitable Development Initiatives to ensure that Detroiters who have long been left out of the city’s economic growth have access to good jobs, quality housing and vibrant neighborhoods.

The Duggan administration has also made significant investments in the city’s infrastructure, including removing more than 830,000 abandoned vehicles from Detroit streets since 2014, repairing nearly 1,000 miles of sidewalks and planting more than 150,000 trees.

The concept

The video features footage of abandoned buildings, blighted neighborhoods, and vacant lots. It also includes shots of people dancing in clubs and on streets.

The shoot

We spent a day shooting in Detroit at various locations. We started at the European-style castle, set up some lights and smoke, and got some great shots of the dancers in front of the building. Next, we headed to an abandoned warehouse that was perfect for the industrial feel of the music video. We set up some more lights and smoke and got some great shots of the dancers in front of the building. Finally, we headed to an abandoned factory that was perfect for the dark, gritty feel of the music video. We turned off all the lights and got some great shots of the dancers in the dark.

The video was edited by Matthew Donnelly, who has also done work for Red Bull and many other commercial clients. He is based in Ferndale, Michigan.
