What is Electronic Music?

Electronic music is sound that has been modified using electronic devices. It can be anything from the classic electronic music of the 1970s, to the more modern electronic dance music that is popular today. Electronic music concerts are a great way to experience this type of music.

Origins

Electronic music is music that employs electronic musical instruments, digital instruments and circuitry-based music technology. In general, a distinction can be made between sound produced using electromechanical means (electroacoustic music), and that produced using electronics only. Electromechanical instruments include mechanical elements, such as strings, hammers, and so on, as well as electrical elements, such as magnetic pickups, power amplifiers and loudspeakers. Examples of electroacoustic devices include the theremin, Hammond organ, and the electric guitar. Pure electronic instruments do not have vibrating strings, hammers, or other sound-producing mechanisms. Devices such as the theremin were developed early in the history of electronic music; however, purely electronic sound generation was not possible until the invention of vacuum tubes in 1904.

The first electronic devices for performing music were developed at the end of the 19th century. The Musical Telegraph utilized steel reeds oscillated by electromagnets and transmitted over telegraph wires; however, it was capable only of producing simple tones.[1] These teleharmoniums were large upright consoles similar in appearance to pipe organs; however, they were intended only for laboratory use and public demonstrations and never put into commercial production.[2][3]

During the three years that Delbrück worked on his thereminvox project from 1928 to 1931,[4] he published articles on his work entitled “On a New Electro-Musical Instrument” (1928),[5] “Sound Production by Means of High Frequency Currents” (1929),[6] and “Further Developments of an Electronic Musical Instrument” (1931).[7][8][9] In these articles he described what he saw as the potential of electronic instruments for the creation of new musical timbres and tones that had never before been heard.

Popularity

Electronic music is one of the most popular genres in the world, and it shows no signs of slowing down. In fact, electronic music concerts are some of the hottest tickets around, with fans flocking to see their favorite DJs and producers in action.

If you’re wondering what all the fuss is about, electronic music is a broad genre that encompasses everything from dance music to ambient soundscapes. It’s often characterized by its use of electronic instruments and computers to create sounds that would be impossible to replicate with traditional instruments.

Whether you’re a diehard fan or just curious to see what all the hype is about, there’s sure to be an electronic music concert in your city that will blow your mind. So get out there and experience the best that this genre has to offer!
