The band’s line-up consists of founding members Jeff Ament (bass guitar), Stone Gossard (rhythm guitar), Mike McCready (lead guitar), and Eddie Vedder (lead vocals, guitar), as well as drummer Matt Cameron (also of Soundgarden). Since its inception, the band’s line-up has included Matt Cameron (1990–present),Dave Krusen (1990), Dave Abbruzzese (1991–1994), Jack Irons (1994–1998), and Matt Cameron (1998–present).

Pearl Jam was one of the seminal bands of the grunge movement of the early 1990s. Opposition to the mainstream music industry quickly made them heroes of the alternative rock underground. Later that year, they headlined Woodstock ’99; however, their set was marred by violence and vandalism committed by some attendees during their performance. In 2000, Pearl Jam released their sixth studio album Binaural. The album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 chart and was warmly received by critics. 2002 saw the release of Pearl Jam’s seventh studio album Riot Act.
