Richie Hawtin

Richard “Richie” Hawtin (born June 4, 1970) is a British-Canadian electronic musician and DJ. He is best known for his work under the alias Plastikman and for his contributions to Detroit techno and minimal techno. He is also the co-founder of Minus Records. In 1998, Hawtin and fellow Detroit techno producer John Acquaviva founded the Plus 8 record label, which they ran until 2006.

In the early 1990s, Hawtin was part of a group of second-generation techno producers from Detroit who were influenced by the original three: Derrick May, Juan Atkins, and Eddie Fowlkes. These producers — including Hawtin, Magda, Marc Houle, and Paco Osuna — came to be known as minimal techno.

Mills left Underground Resistance in the early 1990s, going on to become a favourite DJ of The Chemical Brothers and producer for artists like Madonna and Franck Sinatra. In 1992, Mills founded the record label Axis, which has released some of his most well-known work, including the album Jeff Mills: The Wizard (1992) and the XPress 2 single “Can You Feel It” (1996).
