The Society was founded in 1973 by a group of music lovers who wanted to share their love of traditional acoustic music with others in the community. Over the years, the FFMS has become one of the most respected folk music presenters in the Midwest, presenting hundreds of concerts featuring some of the nation’s finest traditional musicians.

The FFMS is governed by an elected Board of Directors and run completely by volunteers. We rely on the support of our members and donors to help us continue our work of preserving and sharing traditional folk music with new generations.

The Flint Folk Music Society is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and sharing of traditional folk music. We accomplish our mission through public concerts, workshops, jams, and other events.

We are one of the oldest and most active folk music organizations in the country. Our roots go back to the early days of the folk revival in the 1950s, when a group of music lovers in Flint, Michigan started getting together to sing and play the old songs.

Over the years, we’ve welcomed some of the biggest names in folk music to our stage, including Pete Seeger, Odetta, Mary Travers, Arlo Guthrie, Joan Baez, Doc Watson, and many more. We’ve also been privileged to showcase the talents of some of the finest local and regional musicians.
