Newport Folk Festival- Newport, Rhode Island

The Newport Folk Festival is an annual music festival that takes place in Newport, Rhode Island. The festival was founded in 1959 by George Wein and is now run by the Newport Festivals Foundation. The event is held every summer on the last full weekend in July. The 2014 festival will take place from July 25-27.

The Newport Folk Festival is known for its intimate atmosphere and its focus on traditional folk music and up-and-coming singer-songwriters. The festival has also been influential in the development of other genres of music, such as country, blues, and rock. The Pickathon is one of the most well-rounded and diverse music festivals in the country. The four-day festival takes place in August on a beautiful farm just outside of Portland, Oregon.

RockyGrass- Lyons, Colorado

RockyGrass is an annual bluegrass music festival that takes place in Lyons, Colorado. The three-day event features live performances by some of the genre’s biggest names, as well as workshops, camping and other activities.

The 2014 lineup includes Alison Krauss, Sam Bush, Del McCoury Band, Yonder Mountain String Band and many more. Tickets start at $110 for a three-day pass.

Telluride Bluegrass Festival- Telluride, Colorado

The Telluride Bluegrass Festival is an annual music festival in Telluride, Colorado. The festival is held in the historic Town Park, nestled in a box canyon surrounded by 13,000 and 14,000 foot peaks. The festival features several stages of live music, on-site camping, workshops, discussions and other events. The lineup typically includes a mix of bluegrass, folk, country and jam bands.

Some notable past performers include: Emmylou Harris, Alison Krauss & Union Station, John Prine, Béla Fleck & Abigail Washburn and Steve Martin & The Steep Canyon Rangers.

The 2014 festival will take place from June 19-22.
