Northern California

Folk music fans rejoice! There are several festivals to look forward to in Northern California this year. The San Francisco Folk Music Festival will take place in the Mission district from February 7-9. The lineup includes excellent performers from the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. Also on February 7-9 is the Berkeley Old-Time Music Convention in Berkeley. This festival features music from the Appalachian, old-time, Celtic, and bluegrass traditions.

San Francisco

The San Francisco Folk Music Festival is one of the oldest and largest folk music festivals in the United States. Held annually since 1957, the festival features a wide range of folk music and dance styles from around the world. Performers include both well-known and up-and-coming artists, making it a great event for both music lovers and those looking to discover new talent. The festival takes place in early December each year, making it a great way to get into the holiday spirit!

Mendocino

The village of Mendocino is located on the California coast about three hours north of San Francisco. This little town is big on arts and culture and hosts a number of events throughout the year, including the Mendocino Music Festival in July and the Mendocino Film Festival in May.

The Mendocino Music Festival is a two-week event that features more than 80 concerts, many of them outdoors in beautiful venues overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The festival features a wide range of music, from classical to jazz to world music, and takes place in various venues around Mendocino, including churches, parks, and theaters.

The Mendocino Film Festival is a five-day event that showcases independent films from around the world. The festival screens films in a variety of genres, including feature-length narratives and documentaries, shorts, and student films. There are also Q&A sessions with filmmakers, panels discussion, and special events.

Grass Valley

The Grass Valley Festival is a annual folk music festival in Grass Valley, California. Santa Cruz

The Santa Cruz Folk Music Society sponsors singer-songwriter events, a contra dance series, and an annual folk music festival. All events are held at the historic Club Casablanca located in downtown Santa Cruz. Concerts are typically held on Friday and Saturday nights with contra dances on Sunday evenings. The folk music festival is a three-day event held on Memorial Day weekend. Club Casablanca is located at 217 Morrison Ave, Santa Cruz, CA 95060.

Berkeley

The two-day Berkeley Oldtime Music Convention is a family-friendly event featuring music workshops, dances, and concerts. This year’s festival will be held on October 10-12.

Southern California

The Topanga Banjo Fiddle Contest and Folk Festival is one of the most well-known and respected folk music festivals in California. It has been going strong for over 50 years, and takes place in the small town of Topanga, nestled in the Santa Monica Mountains. Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Folk Music Festivals were a series of annual music festivals, held in various locations in Los Angeles, California from 1961 to 1968. The festivals featured a wide variety of folk music, including artists from the American folk music revival, traditional musicians from many parts of the world, and new singer-songwriters. In addition to music, the festivals included workshops, crafts exhibits, and food from around the world.

The first festival was held at Sycamore Grove Park in October 1961 and featured Pete Seeger, Odetta, Burl Ives, Joan Baez, and新西兰纽约州 Richie Havens.
