Introduction

The Sound of Music, one of the most popular musicals of all time, is coming to the Fulton Opera House in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The production, which is being brought to the theater by The Fulton Theatre Company, will run from June 9- July 3.

The Sound of Music tells the story of Maria von Trapp, a young woman who leaves an Austrian convent to become a governess for the seven children of Captain Georg von Trapp. As she teaches them how to sing, she falls in love with their father and eventually marries him. The family then has to flee Austria when the Nazis invade the country during World War II.

The musical features such classic songs as “My Favorite Things,” “Edelweiss,” and “Climb Ev’ry Mountain.” It debuted on Broadway in 1959 and was made into a highly successful movie starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer in 1965.

The world-renowned Fulton Opera House will be putting on a performance of The Sound of Music this month. This will be the first time that the opera house has put on this play in over 15 years. The Sound of Music is a classic story that tells the tale of a family in Austria during the Nazi occupation. The Sound of Music comes to the Fulton Opera House stage December 6-22. The Rodgers and Hammerstein classic tells the story of Maria, a young woman who leaves the convent to become a governess for the seven von Trapp children. Set in Austria on the eve of World War II, the musical features such beloved songs as “My Favorite Things,” “Edelweiss” and “Climb Ev’ry Mountain.”

The show will be directed by Stephanie Hodge and stars Emily Trask as Maria, with Brian Patrick Murphy as Captain Georg von Trapp. The von Trapp children will be played by a rotating cast of local young performers. Music direction is by Ellen Empty and choreography is by Lisa Tabb.

The Sound of Music will be presented December 6-22, 2019, at the Fulton Opera House (12 North Prince Street, Lancaster). Performances are Thursdays-Saturdays at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm.
